Electric Nerve Block Therapy For Sciatic Nerve Related Pain
While there are various conventional treatment methods available for the relief of pain originating from the sciatic nerve, electric nerve block therapy may be considered another one.
For a patient who has yet to gain pain relief utilizing pain medications and/or bed rest, electric nerve blocks in combination with other procedures may be the next alternative.
The DRX9000 treatment is an example of an alternative procedure which aims to provide sciatica pain relief in conjunction with electrical stimulation therapy. The DRX9000 protocol provides for twenty treatments of Back Decompression over a six-week course of therapy. Each session consists of a 30 minute treatment on the DRX9000 True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System, which creates decompression in the disc space. The treatment is followed by fifteen minutes of ice and interferential frequency therapy in attempts to consolidate the lumbar paravertebral muscles.
According to Dr. James Woessner, electric nerve block therapy may be a useful tool for patients suffering with sciatic nerve related pain.
In Dr. Woessner’s study titled, “Blocking Out The Pain” he states that for a practitioner to maximize his or her outcomes utilizing ENB they must be able to:
*Diagnose pathology involving the sciatic nerve.
*Develop a treatment plan with the patient that may include ENB’s to the sciatic nerve.
*Use appropriate equipment.
*Correctly place the electrodes.
*Document treatment and outcomes, including before and after pain scores.
*Provide supplemental medical advice and care.
