Common Laxatives That One Must Avoid
There are three common laxatives that are prescribed when an individual is suffering from constipation. However these must be avoided as this might worsen the condition of the individual who are experiencing leaky gut syndrome.
Ex-Lax, Dulcolax, and similar alternatives (Stimulant Laxatives):
This laxative works by stimulating the nerves of the colon and forcing them to move. The forceful movement of the bowel actually weakens the bowel and rectal muscles. Individuals who use these kinds of laxatives actually become addicted to it and in due course of time the bowel movement can occur only after taking the laxative. This kind of laxative also contains an array of chemicals and toxins that create inflammation and further damage which irritates the intestinal lining and the bowels.
Colace and similar alternatives (Stool Softeners):
This laxative moves fats and water into the stool to make it softer and enables it easier to pass. Similar to the stimulant laxatives, this also creates dependence and contains harsh chemicals which create inflammation and other damages in the intestinal lining and bowels.
Milk of Magnesia, Epsom Salt, and similar alternatives (Osmotic Laxatives):
The laxative work by forcing more water than normal amount into the intestine and in the colon. This is done to soften the stool. The downside of the laxative is that , this is aso known to make dependence and causes dehydration in the human body and create electrolyte balance.
It is always better that individuals suffering from constipation do not consume these laxatives as this might cause harm to the intestinal lining worsening the leaky gut syndrome.
